Dr. Maya is a board-certified chiropractic physician, who was born in sunny Southern California, at the age of two she moved to Birmingham, Alabama where she grew up on a small horse farm. There she developed a love for horses, the outdoors, and rural southern living. When she was sixteen she moved back to the West Coast where her family settled in Eugene.
After completing her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Medical Humanities at Oregon State University, she studied at the University of Western States to obtain her Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine. Dr. Maya was first introduced to the chiropractic profession in college while working as a chiropractic assistant in Corvallis, Oregon. In undergrad, Dr. Maya had planned to go to medical school but shifted gears toward a more holistic approach to medicine after she saw firsthand how helpful and healing chiropractic care can be for individuals from all walks of life.
Dr. Maya has a particular interest in prenatal, postnatal, and women’s healthcare. To help continue her education and training in this area she became certified in the Webster Technique, a technique used to help decrease pain, and discomfort, and gain proper pelvic alignment for women throughout their pregnancy. She is also a member of the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) and attends continuing education courses and seminars emphasizing treatments and therapies for both mother and infant.
Dr. Maya believes in evidence-based medicine and uses her clinical knowledge and research-based techniques to treat the whole patient, not just the problem. Aside from her interest in women’s health, she also has experience treating adolescence, adults, older adults, and children. Dr. Maya has a strong background rooted in exercise, rehab, and movement disorders. As well as experience treating a variety of athletes and sports related injuries.
Dr. Maya’s primary purpose in her work is to help alleviate pain, help teach and encourage individuals to practice living a healthy lifestyle, and understand how chiropractic care can improve their lives.
