Chiropractic Care 101
Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care isn’t what it used to be. With a variety of approaches and techniques, chiropractors have an ever evolving number of tools in their arsenal to treat all manner of ailments.
Not only is it an effective method, but chiropractic care can also be a less invasive, more affordable option for treatment.
It’s important to know what factors can influence your cost of care to ensure you’ve budgeted appropriately.
What kind of conditions can be treated by a chiropractor?
Everything. Really. As a Seattle chiropractor, we’re here for all your needs.
Whether it be a longstanding injury you sustained playing the sport of your choosing, a joint replacement, stubborn pain as a result of a car accident or work injury, or just general bad patterning, we’ve got you covered.
In case you don’t believe us, check out our frequently asked questions page for any more clarification you may need.
How much does a Chiropractor cost in Seattle?
Chiropractic care can range greatly in expense depending on services rendered at time of visit.
From the initial consultation, which is generally complementary, to any imaging that may be necessary, your out of pocket cost can vary widely.
The severity of the condition being treated will also have an effect on your overall cost of treatment.
It’s safe to say that no condition is resolved overnight, so repeated visits over a short period of time will increase the effectiveness of the chiropractic method, especially when coupled with rehabilitative work.
Most of all, what will effect your out of pocket cost per visit will be the specifics of your insurance plan. Should you decide to move forward with chiropractic care, we will provide more detailed information as part of our intake process to ease any financial concerns you may have.
Can I pay out of pocket for chiropractic care?
You sure can! We believe that everyone deserves quality care and insurance is most certainly not a requirement.
We’ve created a myriad of options to make for easy and convenient payment for treatment plans. First and foremost, we always encourage full disclosure with the doctors who will ensure that your recommended frequency of visits is comfortable for you.
Once that’s been decided, there are two options. If you prefer to pay for your treatment plan all at once, we are happy to provide a 5% discount off the total cost of care.
If a payment plan is more your speed, we have a very flexible billing department that will get you set up for an automatic payment to be debited for the agreed upon amount of time.
What else can I expect during my first visit?
At Tangelo our primary goal is to create a tailored experience for every current and prospective client.
As a new patient, our intake process is streamlined and efficient. Once scheduled, you’ll be sent paperwork electronically to provide some basic medical background information and insurance information.
Once this information has been received, we’ll get to work on verifying your applicable benefits to discuss in detail before you go back to see the chiropractor.
We’ll tell you everything you need to know; what your deductible looks like, if you have a copay, how many visits your insurance company will allow, the works.
Not sure what some of this lingo means? Not to worry, feel free to reference our post on chiropractic health insurance that will break down the foreign language that is insurance.
Once the administrative obligations are out of the way, the fun begins. Your chiropractor will give you the lay of the land as they walk you back to the bay so you can get a feel for the overall style of the clinic.
Your first visit will include extensive discussion regarding cause of injury, any previous treatment methods, and, most importantly your goals for treatment.
Your doctor will then take you through a certified functional movement screen to assess any compensation patterns that may be contributing to your condition.
Once those areas for improvement have been identified, you’ll receive soft tissue treatment using any one of our various therapies. Finally, after the exam, the chiropractor will introduce you to your rehab team.
Your chiropractor and rehab specialist will put their heads together to create a customized plan for you to make fundamental changes that will work in tandem with the soft tissue treatment to undo old patterns and establish new, healthier patterns.
What kind of chiropractic techniques do you use?
All three of our clinics in the Seattle area employ multiple techniques to get you back in fighting shape. Here is a brief overview of what treatments you can expect to have at your disposal.
- Graston technique – uses a small tool to brush over the muscle that will break up any existing scar tissue and alleviate pain/tightness.
- Active Release Techniques – a tactical treatment that combines manipulation and movement to break up scar tissue and increase blood flow to promote faster healing.
- Cupping – creates localized suction to aid in pain management, inflammation, and tightness relief.
- Kinesiology taping– provides stabilization and support to muscles while reducing swelling and increasing muscle function.
- DMS – deep muscle stimulator that uses vibration to reach into the muscle tissue and relieve pain.
How are these techniques different from traditional chiropractic care?
An adjustment, or spinal manipulation, can be a bit of a jarring experience for some.
While our chiropractors are well trained in both styles of chiropractic care, having a plethora of options to choose from gives us a greater opportunity to customize your care.
Traditional chiropractic can often mean a need for repetitive follow up visits to realign your skeletal system, whereas our inclusion of functional rehabilitation is meant to train you to move better on your own.
Our ideal outcome is to teach you to be cognizant of your movement and provide you with longterm tools to troubleshoot and sticking points that may arise.
